Members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police want to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable boating season.

May 18th to May 24th, is Safe Boating Week and the OPP will be patrolling the waterways to ensure boaters are in compliance with the vessel regulations.

On those beautiful sunny days, most of us want to get out on the water to use our boats. Just remember that any vessel being underway that has any type of motor, requires the operator to possess a valid Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC) or proof of competency equivalence.

5 Key points to remember are:

Wear a PFD or Lifejacket

Boat Sober

Take a Boating Course

Be Prepared, Both You and Your Vessel

Be Wary of the Dangers of Cold Water Immersion

Remember, impaired operation on the water carries the same fines and penalties as on the highway! No Drinking and boating. Help keep our waterways safe for everyone.
