Michelle Maryk, who goes by the nickname Flexy Michelle, is entering the New Year by hosting yoga and barre fitness classes.
“Barre is a combination of yoga, pilates and ballet,” Maryk told The Selkirk Journal. “There is no dancing and no choreography. “There is no dancing and no choreography. It’s just the exercises that ballerinas do to perform on their toes and pirouettes. We really underestimate the strength of a ballerina’s legs.”
The East St. Paul resident is hosting both classes at Bronx Park Community Centre in Winnipeg during the months of January, February and March.
Maryk, 31, described the yoga classes which she offers as high intensity, but also explained how participants can go at their own individual pace.
“The stretching is pretty deep,” Maryk explained about the yoga classes. “We are all beginners at some point.”
The classes get underway on Jan. 13.
The barre fitness classes run Mondays and Thursdays evenings from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. The Flexy Yoga Flow also runs Mondays and Thursdays evenings from 7 to 8 p.m.
Maryk said that for those who book both classes that she’ll offer a discount on the registration fee.
